Office copiers, printers, fax machines, and other electronics often contain heavy metals such as selenium and lead. These heavy metals are toxic and may damage the environment, ground water supplies, and more if the equipment is sent to a landfill.
Schock Logistics can provide you with various options regarding the reuse, recycling, and/or ecological disposal of your electronic devices. These options include:
- Having the machine reused or parted out by a local technician.
- Having the machine recycled and receiving a certificate of destruction.
Schock Logistics provides clients with the following recycling certifications: R2, ISO14001, ISO9001, OHSAS18001, NAID, and eSteward. Recycle shipments can be certified by the load or for an additional fee, by the serial number. eSteward guarantees your equipment remains in the continental U.S.A. and is not exported overseas. (To learn more about the destructive practices of machines being exported overseas, please watch the PBS News Hour video below.)
Your data security:
Many digital copiers retain a copy of every print made on their hard drive(s). Your copier's hard drive may contain memorized copies of documents with social security numbers, tax returns, medical information, credit card information, or more. This data can be mined by criminal technicians. Like computers, deleting or erasing files on your copier does not necessarily make the copier data secure. A trained technician can often recover “deleted” files.
Schock Logistics can provide you with various options regarding the data protection of your electronic devices. These options include:
- Removing the hard drive from the unit and:
a) giving the hard drive to the client for safekeeping or destruction
b) placing the hard drive in a lockbox and sending it by parcel carrier to a destruction facility and receiving a certificate of destruction.
